Coordinator’s Profile

Dr. Atolani, Olubunmi, an Associate Professor, is a Natural Products and (Organic) Medicinal Chemist with over many years of university teaching and research experience. He is an enthusiast of the accomplishment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through innovation and green chemistry. He researches extensively on medicinal plants. He is one of the pioneer fellows of the prestigious and renowned Nigerian Young Academy whose strength lies in capacity building and mentoring of younger academics.

Academically, having obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. Chemistry in 2003 and 2007 respectively, he obtained his PhD in Medicinal Chemistry in 2013 from the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. He was the faculty Best Researcher of the year in 2023 and 2024. He actively collaborate with the American Chemical Society to pursue the SDGs through the application of green chemistry for environmental sustainability. He had research trainings at Charité University, Germany and COMSAT University, Pakistan among others. He is a principal investigator in various innovative research groups that effectively managed many international and reputable competitive scientific research grants such as Deutsche-Forschungsgemeinschaft-Germany, UNESCO, TWAS, Seeding Labs Equipment grant (USA), EACR, etc. With over one hundred (100) peer-reviewed journal articles (scopus-indexed majority), he has been consistently listed as part of the top 500 scientists in Nigeria since 2019 – 2025 by Sci-Val ranking.
