African Centre for Herbal Research, Ilorin otherwise called ACHRI was established in June, 2015 following extensive deliberation by the members of the U6 consortium. U6 consortium was originally an initiative of six African Universities comprising of:
· Cape Peninsula University of Technology, South Africa
· University of Eldoret, Kenya
· Kwara State University, Malete, Nigeria
· University of Cape Coast, Ghana
· University of the Gambia, Banjul, Gambia
· University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria
However, the U6 consortium (now U6+ consortium) expanded to accommodate more African institutions which includes:
· University of Calabar, Nigeria
· University of Abuja, Abuja, Nigeria
· Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria
· Vaal University of Technology, South Africa
· Al-Hikmah University, Nigeria
ACHRI has three main facilities which include:
· A Research Laboratory
· A Production Unit
· A Herbal Organic Research Farm
The research laboratory and production unit are both located within the Central Research Laboratory Complex of the University, while the herbal organic research farm occupying six (6) hectares of land is located close to the dam site of the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. The farm housed various medicinal herbs which are dedicated for advanced researches. The centre is open for productive collaborations.
